  1. I would have to say (in my limited experience that I hope to expand one day when my kids are older) that Stradbroke Island is currently one of my favourite spots in Australia. It's quiet and beautiful, and it's a great spot for relaxing!

  2. I love the Sunshine Coast in QLD - my favourite spot is the Eumundi Markets :)

  3. It would be tempting to think of some exotic spot far from little ole Adelaide (where we currently live) but in all honesty I just can't go past Port Elliot on the Fleurieu Peninsula as my favourite Australian spot. A sleepy little town right on the beach, it boasts a couple of terrific pubs, a bookstore to die for (grab a tome, a latte and allow the squishy leather couch to magnetically lure your tushie into a comfy spot where you can tune out the world for an hour or two) and just the right combination of trendy & kitsch in its odd assortment of bric-a-brac stores, homewares & art galleries. Admire driftwood made into furniture, lunch on the best salt & pepper squid you ever tasted, or walk up the hill to the sea and some spectacular views over horseshoe bay. It's all about unwinding at Port Elliot - and we do, several times a year!

  4. Lahela,

we are just about to book accomm. in Port Elliot for a few months time. We went there a few days ago and fell instantly in love. What a magnificent part of Australia. I think we might head back soon and check out that book shop before going home tomorrow.

  5. i'm thinking it is fairly safe to say that anywhere you visit in Australia is amazingly stunning in different ways! I mentioned Clare valley before but agree with so many of the other comments - also i have just moved to north Coast NSW after having lived in TAS for 6 years. Love them both for different reasons! No wonder why they call Australia God's country!

  6. favourite holiday town is yamba (can walk to cafes and beach - my prerequisite for any holiday!), but my favourite favourite is "cup coffee" in west end (brisbane). best coffee and baristas and fun / quirky shops in the streets surrounding.

  7. Little ol' Tassie. Nothing beats trekking through the wilderness, you are completely cut off from the outside world. One of the purest places on the planet! Totally mesmorising and stunning!

  8. Mmmm, my favourite place in Australia would be Moreton Island, I love the peaceful beauty it has :)

  9. Farm Beach on the Eyre Peninsula. Nothing beats it. :)

  11. I've lived in Australia for almost 6 years now and my favourite place to date is Tasmania. It reminds me of home and I love the layed back island style, but I love a bit of weather too, and the diving is great.

  12. Being a country girl at heart, I'd have to say my home town of Broken Hill. After living in the city, I now appreciate the lifestyle of living in a small country town a lot more than I used to. We had the bush basically at our backdoor and I have many fond memories of playing "out bush" as a kid!

PS: Love your photos from your visit to SA - looks like you had a fab time. Victor is right up there on my weekend getaway list!

  13. I have 2 favourite places.. Lake Moogerah as its the first place I took my daughter camping and Dream World Gold Coast as its the first place where my kids got to cuddle a Koala which is one thing they really wanted to do.

  14. My little piece of heaven is my holiday destination, Coral Bay, Western Australia. Great family spot and suits all ages. The water is crystal clear and swimming with and hand feeding the Schnapper a special experience. Close to nature and miles away from the crowds it is so relaxing, I never want to leave.

  15. I absolutely adore Hamilton Island. The kids love it, there is always something to do, it is gorgeous and the kids eat and stay free! What is there not to love!

  16. When my husband I first met we were walking home from an amazing night out and we took a short cut through some back alleys. We spotted this tiny little circle of trees. We pushed our way through and inside was the most amazing fairy garden. It had little toadstools, frog statues, fairies, a little table and hairs and gorgeous smelling flowers it was like a little bit of magic. Its the sweetest place. I have no idea who owns it or maintains it as it isnt attached to a house. It might not be on everyones 'to do' list but it is my favourite place and right here in Newcastle!

  17. I would have to say my favourite part of Australia would have to be the Barkly Tablelands. The most spectacular country where you can see the curve in the horizon accompanied by a deafening silence. It's about 3 1/2 hours N/E from the nearest town (Tennant Creek) in the Northern Territory. <3

  18. Funny your picture is of Victor Harbor, as that's my favourite place. I'm from SA, so it's lovely to go for the weekend and hang out at the beach or go visit the Clydesdales (or even take the Clydesdale-pulled train to Granite Island). So beautiful there!

  19. My favourite place in Australia would have to be the sunny coast because my mum takes me on holidays there like every weekend and i always seem to get a really good tan there.

  20. My favourite place in Australia is Broken Head, New South Wales because both my husband's and my family have gone their for holidays since we were kids. We now take our two year old son there and have a great time, every time. You can just relax and spend quality family time together or you can drive 10 minutes and enjoy what Byron Bay has to offer from the great food and shopping. I love their markets too! I hope my son will remember the great times when he is my age and be able to say it is one of his favourite places too!

  21. My favourite part of Australia, is the Atherton Tablelands, it's beautiful up there, so green. The rainforest is amazing and the green rolling hills with cows gently grazing is so peaceful. The pace of life is slower as well, it just makes for a beautiful getaway.

  22. I just love Brunswick Heads in Northern NSW, a sleepy little town with a awesome pub, beautiful beaches (including a lovely little sheltered beach for kids that mine have re-named Tranquil Bay) and some great op shops. Bruns is a short drive away from beatiful rainforests and rolling green countryside, but lovely enough to just stay and laaaaze around.

  23. I love where I live.
The Yarra Valley. So much to see and do and the scenery is just stunning!!!
Marysville is always a quaint little town as is Healesville with all the cafes and wineries.

  24. Durras, NSW south Coast. It is so beautiful and rugged! It is so peaceful and quiet.

  25. My favourite place is Underwater World at Maroochydore, QLD because when we go there with our eldest daughter who is 2, the wow's and amazing never get old.

  26. We are tripping around Australia. We left Brisbane on 3 Dec 2010. We recently had a day trip to Port Stephens. What a beautiful place! The marina water was so clean and clear, we enjoyed spotting all the different types of fish. The temperature for Summer was warm but not too hot. The town centre had a relaxed atmosphere. We experienced the beast sea food platter so far on our trip! We love Port Stephens!

  27. With so many more places in Australia to explore, I would say our favourite family holiday destination so far is the Kosciuszko National Park. The Snowy Mountains are beautiful in winter with great walking tracks, abundant wildlife, beautiful scenery and not to mention great skiing!

    ReplyDelete
  28. One of my favourite little places is Eungella in North Queensland. The most amazing views (which you can also see via hangliding, nature walks, swimming holes and the best pies in Australia are just up the road!

  29. There are just soooo many awesome places in Australia, and being an Army kid we got to see a lot of them. But my all time favourite place is a camping ground in NSW called O'Grady's. It's run by a family on their land. There is a river that runs alongside it that falls from a mountain. Up river is white water and at the camp grounds it's still and gorgeous. We use to slide down the hills on cardboard, catch fish and kayak down the river. What a truly beautiful landscape to have beautiful family memories with.

  30. Well i've grown up in Tasmania, and it really is so lovely....I'll say the Cataract Gorge in Launceston, such a lovely family friendly place to go.

  31. Coolangatta is our favourite. We go there every March. It's how my husband and I celebrate our Birthday's and also our Wedding anniversary!

  32. Wow! This is tricky. We are about to move back to Victoria from the Sunny Coast, I must say I can't wait to get back to Point Lonsdale on the Bellarine Peninsula, it is just gorgeous and I never fail to find some treasure in that op shop :)
