Salzburg Part 1

Freiburg Germany

A fleeting visit (only one night) to the university town of Freiburg left us wanting more!  We had an amazing traditional German dinner, and ofcourse being in the area of the Black Forest, we naturally tried the famous Black Forest cake for dessert! 

Rust Germany and Europa Park

What we have learnt this trip, is that you need to include rest days if you are travelling with little ones, and add one or two destinations of their choice, it just makes it so much easier.  Our little side trip by Europa Park in Rust Germany!  We stayed in a themed room and had a ball!  It made us feel like kids again!

Trier Germany

We are staying in the outskirts of Trier in Germany.  Quiet and peaceful and providing a well earned rest for our little man.

Germany is so different to France, which is only a short ride away.  As our 5 year old put it, France is fancy!  And so it is.  France is stylish and quiet and so well mannered.  Children walk into stores and don't touch, they don't shout, they don't make a fuss (not sure how those French parents manage it).  I must say, I do really love France.

Germany is louder, noisier and more lively.  Trier is a very pretty place.  The Old Town is full of history, Trier being Gemany's oldest city and home to Roman ruins that are older than Rome!  Shopping is fantastic (yes I am posting a box home tomorrow) and prices are amazing!  I have found the most amazing travel bags which I will be searching out when I arrive home.

Mulhouse France

Today we visited Mulhouse in France (near the German border).  This is France's main textile producing area (even Ikea fabric is printed here).  They release a new fabric each year for Christmas and above is this years fabric.  Absolutely gorgeous! 
We also visited the zoo (no the polar bear was not roaming free - although as you can see it cetainly was polar bear weather).
